Screen Classic starring acclaimed actor John Barrymore. This rare 1925 edition was published in conjunction with the first silent film adaptation of Moby Dick titled The Sea Beast starring John Barrymore. Moby Dick is perhaps the most famous sea adventure novel of the 19th-century. First appearing in periodicals, Herman Melville's (1819-1891) most famous work saw an initial mix of responses on its way to becoming a Great American Novel. It is the sailor Ishmael's narrative of the maniacal quest of Ahab, captain of the whaling ship Pequod, for vengeance against Moby Dick, the giant white sperm whale that bit off his leg on the ship's previous voyage. The novel caused authors like William Faulkner to wish they had written the book themselves. While the work itself is a story of hunting the great whale Moby Dick, it is written with themes on social class, good and evil, and even the existence of God. This green cloth gold gilt illustrated hardcover is in overall nice condition, slight scuffing exhibited to cover edges. Intact pages display age tanning and foxing. Measures 5"W x 7.25"L x 1.25"D, weight 1lb.
