For your consideration are four early photos of Western and town life in Colorado & Montana from the late 19th century. The first and smallest photo in this lot shows a cowboy and lifestyle scene in Trinidad, Colorado. The front side shows a cowboy on horse back herding and/or roping cattle, while the back of the photo shows an office scene of two men, one sitting at a table and another standing behind him. The second photo is a stereoview of Manitou and Pikes Peak, Colorado taken and copy-righted by B.W. Kilburn in 1877. It shows the town and was taken from an elevated position as to capture as many buildings as possible and the mountains in the background. The back is marked reading, "Photographed and Published by Kilburn Brothers, - - Littleton, N.H.". The third photo shows the Baca House in Trinidad, Colorado. The Baca House is a historic two-story, 1870s Territorial-style adobe residence in Trinidad, Colorado, now part of the Trinidad History Museum. Originally built for merchant John Hough, it was purchased by sheep rancher Felipe Baca in 1873 for 22,000 pounds of wool. The photo shows the house from a frontal view with two people sitting on the porch and two people sitting in the top, middle window. The fourth and final photo shows the Frisco Hotel located in Neihart, Montana, first opened to the public in the late 1890s. A man can be seen outside standing next to the side of building. The photos show good condition overall with some wear present but no major signs of damage is noted. The smallest measures 4" L x 5" W, while the largest measures 5 1/2" L x 7 3/8" W. They have a collective weight of under 6 ounces. Provenence: From The Jim Aplin Collection in Piedmont, South Dakota
