The lot features a nice floral beaded Indian tanned hide shoulder bandolier possible bag from the Montana Crow Native American Indians dating to the 1950’s. The piece is comprised of thick Indian tanned Great American Buffalo Bison hide which is adorned along both sides with a whimsical floral beadwork pattern in all glass trade seed beads and bugle tube beads. The beadwork shows colors of corn yellow, sky padre light blue, medium green, red, cobalt, white, greasy green, orange, and semi-transparent red bugle tube beads. The piece shows a purse like shoulder bag with bag having thick hide fringe along three of the sides of the bag. The piece has a hide covered button with hide loop tie and the top flap has a fancy seed beaded edge. The inside of the bag is lined with a blue calico trade clothe. The bag is trade thread sewn and shows overall good condition. Provenance: From a fine American Indian collection from New Mexico. The piece was collected in the 1980-1990’s from an Arizona Trading Post with many items being collected from Ken Canfield (1941-2006) a renowned Santa Fe, New Mexico dealer who established Canfield Gallery in the 1980’s. The piece measures overall 28”L with the top strap and fringe by 16”W with fringe.
