This is an early and rare original Montana Crow Native American Indian hair roach dating to circa early 1900. The piece is crafted from porcupine hair and has the tips dyed with yellow ocher mineral pigment paint. The center structure is woven with dark red and light red / pink German town trade yarn with porcupine quill work outer edge and woven porcupine hair. These headdress war bonnet roaches would have been worn across the top of the warrior’s head for battle or a special ceremony. This example displays very well and shows good overall condition. Provenance: From a historic Eastern Montana American Indian Collection, where the piece was found to be an authentic original, one of the finest collections of American Indian weaponry and antiquities in Montana. Measures 16”L with an additional 18.5”L Indian tanned hide ties. Also is 3”W by 7”H.
