For your consideration is a fossilized Ammonite from Big Horn county Montana. This fossil was removed from the Bear Paw shale which is a geologic formation from the Late Cretaceous period. The earliest ammonites appear during the Devonian, and the last species died out in the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event. This piece is a wonderful example of the species. You can see the planispirals present in the fossil. The fossil measures 10 1/2" x 5 3/4" x 9".
