Included in this lot is a collection of four photographs from Montana, dated back to 1898. The first two photos are of the Montana Railway in the winter and are marked 1898. On the back of the first photo is written, "Scene on Montana Ry 1898. Known as the Jawbone Ry. My first job in Montana as a brakeman + conductor." The second photo shows a train on the tracks with a plow on the front filled with snow and two men standing on the snow. On the back of this photo is written, "Scene on Montana Ry, 1898". The third photo is of five young men sitting around a table, playing cards. The back of this photo is marked "Zortman, Montana 1905". Back in the early 1920s, around 2,000 people resided in the Zortman area. Today, Zortman has switched its role from a bustling, prosperous mining town to a quaint and nostalgic village of approximately 60 residents. The final photo is undated, but shows fourteen men working with horses and pigs at the Great Falls Ranch. The back of the photo is marked, "Great Falls Ranch- Bowdoin, Mont." The first three photos all measure 5 1/2" by 5 1/2". The last photo measures 8 1/2" by 5 1/2".
