Featured in this lot are two Montana Vigilante books from two authors, N.P. Langford and Prof. Thos. J. Dimsdale circa 1945 and 1957. "Vigilantes Days and Ways" (N.P. Langford, 1957) provides a dramatic account of early Montana history beginning in the 1860's when the promise of gold brought masses of people to the territory. Often times justice was carried out by the Vigilantes, a band of so-called lawmen who sometimes would pronounce judgement on an accused person. They would hastily perform hangings in the name of justice. The book shows a white and brown dust cover showing a tree bark design while under the dust jacket is cloth bound and shows a maroon color. "Vigilantes of Montana" (Professor Thomas J. Dimsdale, 1945) is the correct and impartial narrative of the chase, capture, trial, and execution of Henry Plummer's Road Agent Band. The book contains accounts of the lives and crimes of many of the robbers and desperadoes and is interspersed with sketches of life in the mining camps of the "Far West". The book shows a black hardcover with the title in gold gilt lettering. The two books show good condition overall with some slight wear present, but no major signs of damage or wear is noted. They measure from 9 3/8" L x 6 3/8" W x 1 5/16" D to 8 1/8" L x 5 1/2" W x 3/4" D and have a collective weight of 2 pounds and 12 ounces.
