Featured in this lot is a Large Jurassic Dinosaur Coprolite from the Morrison Formation of the Western United States. The formation was named after Morrison, Colorado, where some of the first fossils in the formation were discovered by Arthur Lakes in 1877. According to radiometric dating, the Morrison Formation dates from 156.3 ± 2 million years old at its base, to 146.8 ± 1 million years old at the top. Coprolites are remains of the long-necked sauropods that lived in the region 150 million years ago. The coprolite retains the texture of the original, with a wonderful cream and greenish grey patina imparted by the ages. Measures 5.75" diameter, weight is 6lb, 6oz. Display stand of black braided metal measures 3"W x 4"L x 3.5"H. Combined weight is 6lb 6oz.*
