Featured in this lot is this Hopi-Tewa pottery vessel attributed to Nampeyo of Hano, circa 1900's. Nampeyo (1859 –1942) was a Hopi-Tewa potter who lived on the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. Her Tewa name was also spelled Num-pa-yu, meaning "snake that does not bite". Her name is also cited as "Nung-beh-yong”, which is Tewa for Sand Snake. The pot shows wonderfully crafted, traditional Hopi-Tewa construction with a wonderful black and red on cream coloration in traditional Nampeyo decoration. The condition of this pot is good for its age, with some wear from age and usage and a slight fissure to the bottom of the pot. The measurements of this Hopi-Tewa pot are 9" x 7 1/2" x 7 1/2".
