Offered in this lot we have a collection of historic study books on aspects Native American culture and crafting skills. The collection consists of four books originating from the mid 20th century. The first book is titled Crow Indian Beadwork A Descriptive And Historical Study and was printed in 1959. The book describes the different variety of clothing and items that where traditionally beaded as well as common patterns of the piece with pictorial references in the back. The second book is marked Crow Indian Medicine Bundles and was printed in 1960. The book defines and explains Crow Indian medicine bundle construction and intended functionality. The two books where both written by William Wildschut and John C. Ewers for The Museum of the American Indian Heye Foundation. The Third book is titled Quill and Beadwork Of the Western Sioux by Carrie A. Lyford for the Department of the Interior Branch of Education, Bureau of Indian Affairs. The book shows the styles, techniques, development, and items used or manufactured in the Sioux's traditional quill and beadwork with picture references. The fourth and final book is titled Blackfoot Craftworker's book compiled by Adolf & Beverly Hungry Wolf and printed in 1977. The book features pictures and some descriptions of beaded clothing and other items crafted by the Blackfoot tribe, as well as a short section on the history of the craft. The books show good condition for their age with some light wear across the pieces. The largest of the books measures 11" tall by 8 5/8" wide.
