This piece is by master Navajo silversmith Alvin Joe from the late-20th-century showing a heavy sterling silver bracelet cuff set with a large, polished cabochon of Easter Blue Turquoise. Alvin Joe (Navajo, 20th-century) was born and raised on the Navajo Reservation, learning the silversmithing trade from his father Philip Joe, who was taught by his uncle Kenneth Begay as well. Alvin further took silversmithing classes at Ganado High School and in the several years honed his craft testing with various metals, since the 1990’s Alvin has worked exclusively in sterling silver. He is now regarded as a master silversmith with his works being featured in museums, galleries and private collections, as well as winning various awards. The work is signed, “AJ” and “Navajo Sterling” and is by Alvin Joe in the late-20th-century. Alvin Joe is also known and referred to as Al Joe, A. Joe, A.J. or Avin Joe. The Easter Blue Turquoise stone is set in a heavy sterling silver old pawn stamped pattern, rope, spot bezel setting with four prong bracelet cuff. The condition of this bracelet is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The turquoise nugget measures 1 5/8" L x 1 1/8" W, while the bracelet measures 2 1/4" L x 2 3/4" W x 2 1/8" H. It has an approximate interior circumference of 7" and weighs 75.9 grams.
