Featured in this lot is this Navajo deer hide lined turtle shell medicine bag circa early to mid 1900s. The medicine bag features a wonderfully and professionally crafted turtle shell, deer hide, leather, brass, and trade bead construction that shows a cleaned turtle shell that has been segmented and lined with deer hide will sewn together with sinew and shows tassels of white leather with blue trade beads at its end and shows three brass bells with a compartment that opens up to produce the objects inside known as medicine and used for a variety of reasons. Inside this bag is two shells, two pre made buttons and two bone awl and utensils. A Navajo turtle shell medicine bag is a traditional, handcrafted bag made from a real turtle shell and lined with deerskin. The condition of this Navajo turtle shell bag is well preserved with slight wear to the outside of the shell but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements 9" x 4" x 2 3/4".
