For your consideration is this original Ed Singer (1951-Present) drawing originally done in 1977. Ed Singer, a Diné (Navajo), was born on June 17, 1951, in Tuba City, Arizona. As a child, Ed spent a lot of time painting and hanging out with his brothers. Art remained a key element of his life and education as he studied art at Southern Utah State College and Northern Arizona University. After college, he focused his efforts on establishing himself as a full-time artist. He is most renowned for his paintings of traditional Indians, which typically include a solitary figure. He places them in contemporary surroundings, as if to represent today's Navajos' struggle to live a traditional existence while still incorporating Euro-American influences. The piece shows a woman laying on the ground covering her head with both of her arms. She has her eyes closed and a neutral expression on her face. It is signed in the bottom left corner reading, "Singer", while the bottom right corner reads, "1977". The piece is set in a wood and woven twine frame showing good condition overall with slight wear present to the frame. The visible art measures 8 3/8" L x 11 3/8" W, while the entire piece measures 12 5/8" L x 15 5/8" W x 1 1/2" D. It has a total weight of 2 pounds and 6 ounces.
