This is a wonderful Navajo First Phase Revival Sterling Silver Concho Belt with heavy construction dating to circa 1950-1970 signed by Della and Francis James, iconic mid-century Navajo silversmiths. The piece shows a butterfly old hand stamped buckle marked STERLING and "$2,950.00" and on each concho with the overlapping JF Sterling documented hallmark by Della & Francis James. Della and Francis James were documented Navajo silversmiths dating to circa 1950-1970's, they were highlighted in the January 1971 Arizona Highways issue for their renowned craftsmanship and old classic styling, also noted as 1960 by a squash sold by Mark Sublette Medicine Man Gallery. The heavy belt exhibits ten large oval concho / conha's in classic Navajo First Phase / 1st Phase pattern with heavy hand hammered sterling silver construction with a domed oval shape, scalloped edge with hand punch decorated holes showing a double triangular diamond-shaped slot allowing the belt to slip through. Each concho is backed in leather and shows amazing stamped and rocker engraved finishes, a true masterpiece. Overall the belt measures 41.5-inches long. Each concho is 3-inches by 2.75-inches and the buckle is 2.75-inches by 2-inches. Total weight of 598.20 grams.
