The lot features an exceptional authentic original Navajo Native American Indian churro wool rug in a Ganado Pattern from the famed Hubbell Trading Post dating to circa late 19th to early 20th century. The rug shows a solid very tightly hand-woven Navajo-Churro wool. The rug shows all vegetable mineral pigment natural dyes. The rug features a Ganado motif which consists of a predominantly red background, and utilizes stepped borders, showing red, gray / grey, black, and soft white / tan elements. John Lorenzo Hubbell purchased a trading post in circa 1878 and founded what we now know as the Ganado pattern rug. This rug is from the Hubbell Trading Post and dates to the late 1800’s to early 1900’s making this truly an exceptional piece. The rug shows a wonderful highly skilled hand-crafted quality and overall very good condition for its age. Measurements: 84" x 45". The Ganado pattern Navajo rugs are some of the most sought after in the collecting market with such examples selling at auction for $3,750 sold in the NAAC 7/21/2018 auction, the Ganado that sold for $20,000 at the Leslie Hindman 2013 sale, and the Ganado that sold for $16,000 at Cowan's 2014 sale.
