Featured in this lot is this Navajo Diné Gilbert Smith Sterling Silver Multi-Stone Inlay Ring. The ring displays a wonderfully and professionally crafted sterling silver and multi-stone inlay construction featuring Jet, turquoise, pink spiny oyster, coral, opal and turquoise. The art of chip inlay is largely credited to Tommy Singer and the Singer family, who were mid-century jewelry artisans in the Navajo tribe, and as they developed and perfected the craft, they shared the technique with their fellow members. In the many decades since, the technique has spread and been adopted by many artisans. Gilbert Smith is a well-known Micro Inlay Artist from Gallup, New Mexico. The artist's hallmark is stamped on the inside of the split shoulder shank. This beautiful ring is in very nice condition, the bright sterling silver finish highlighting the centre mounted inlay. Size 7, measures 1.25"L x .75"W x 1"D, collective weight is 3.8 grams.
