Featured in this lot is this Navajo Klagetoh trading post rug, circa 1900's. The rug features a large stepped geometric medallion in the rug's central region and a border of double bands and a geometric set of stepped rectangles. The coloration of this rug includes a field of off-white, with the medallion colored red and a border of brown with grey, red, and dark brown layers. Klagetoh is located just south of Ganado and 10 miles north of Wide Ruins. The English translation is “hidden springs”. The Klagetoh weaving is very similar to the Ganado rugs, but with a predominantly gray background instead of the Ganado’s red. Some experts do not consider Klagetoh a specific regional rug, rather it is considered a sub-type of Ganado. The condition of this rug is fair and really shows its age, with wear and bleeding consistent with the age of the rug. The measurements of this 67 1/2" x 47".
