Offered for your bidding pleasure is a Navajo Native American Indian, third phase signed Sterling Silver and Turquoise concho belt. The third phase concho belt came about in the early 1900's, when artists learned how to set turquoise into their pieces. The use of turquoise in silver did not become prevalent until the 1890s, due to the scarcity of the stone. It was during this time period that the Colorado and Nevada turquoise mines began to export their turquoise to New Mexico and Arizona. This belt shows the buckle, ten conchos, is a Navajo Native American Indian, third phase concho belt. This particular example shows the buckle, each stamped with intricate Navajo design elements, and each concho displaying a gorgeous gem quality cabochon of sleeping beauty turquoise. Each concho is firmly secured the the leather belt with brass copper loops. Overall, the belt shows good condition, with tightly set turquoise stones, and a warm silver patina. The belt is signed "BY", Benson Yazzie, and is stamped Sterling silver and measures 44 1/2" long.
