For your consideration is a Beautiful Vintage Navajo (Diné) Yazzie Sterling Turquoise Inlay Lizard Brooch, signed "AY". The Navajo Yazzie family is renown worldwide for their jewelry making prowess. The inlay consists of malachite, Cripple Creek turquoise, and spiny oyster. The earliest Navajo jewelry was inspired by the silver trappings by the Spaniards. Historically, Navajo jewelry is an important part of the Navajo people’s cultural heritage. A Navajo necklace, bracelet, or earrings was worn to reflect a person’s cultural identity, status, or wealth. The Lizard is a Symbol of Prosperity and Survival. Native tribes such as the Navajo directly tie the lizard to ideas of healing, health, and even resurrection. would look to the lizard for inspiration.
