This is a 19th-century Navajo Transitional Blanket from the ex-collection of Charles H. Gerhardt, Edna Kelly, Bozeman collection and John Moran Auction. This is a fine example of a Transitional Blanket showing a geometric pattern with no central motif or obvious border. This example is finely woven wool with red, yellow, cream / white, dark brown and green with a serrated banding meeting in the middle with central band of elongated diamonds.
Provenance: The rug is from the ex-collections of Charles H. Gerhardt, Antiques and Tribal Art, Lebanon, OH; Edna Kelly, Centerville, OH; a prominent Bozeman, Montana collection; John Moran Auction June 2024 where it sold for $1,905.
The condition of this Navajo blanket is good with dust accumulation and typical signs of wear commensurate with age and use. Issues include, but not limited to: a few scattered small stains and spots, scattered areas of faint dye transfer, scattered areas of loose weave and a few discreet small holes, and textile out of square. The measurements of this blanket is 71 1/2" x 49".
