The lot features a set of three Yeibichai Navajo Kachinas from circa 1940 from the renowned estate of Bruce VanLandingham of Sundog Gallery. Each Kachina doll dates to circa 1940 and shows a solid cottonwood carved construction with mineral pigment dyes of red, blue and white. The figures are all secured to a round wood base with two flathead early screws. The kachina dolls are each holding a rattle in one hand with a tuft of their Germantown yarn neck covering in the other. They also show a trade clothe skirt which is adorned with beadwork and upholstery fringe with a concho like belt, headdress, and glass trade seed beaded necklace. At the rear of each shows a beaded sachel, Germantown yarn and a cutout of fabric made to imitate a coyote or wolf hide. One of the dolls shows a tag from the Sundog Gallery which states “Yeibichai Navajo Kachinas c. 1940 $1,850 (whole set).” Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The kachinas measure 14.5" tall with the base measuring 4.75" in diameter.
