The lot features an Apache Native American Indian dance war club and four drum beaters from the renowned estate of Bruce VanLandingham of Sundog Gallery. The items all date to circa 1940 and show overall good condition. First is the curved dance war club showing a solid wood construction with bent and carved end showing a slight red coloring and having a brass covered metal tack at the end. The gripping area of the club shows stains from use. Next shows the four drum beaters each being hand carved of wood showing a mineral red and green ocher polychrome painted design. One of the beater sticks shows a swirling incised design and another still has the soft trade fabric covered head. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The dance club measures 19”L. The drum beaters measure from the longest being 18”L and the shortest 7.5”L.
