For your consideration is this S. Newhouse Community, N.Y. 2nd Model No. 6 Oneida Community bear trap circa 1863-1865. This bear trap shows excellent construction with an amazing original profile, including original slick pan and shows the riveted bear traps teeth overlapping the traps jaws and riveted with square rivets. S. Newhouse 2nd model No. 6 slick pan traps show the springs all forged from iron with the blacksmith marks are shown correctly on top of the springs on both sides. The arms holding the pan show a bulge before the joint as an identifying mark before the joint connection; and shows the original chain. The condition of this bear trap is good with no obvious signs of use with the right-hand marking worn to just show the 'Newhouse' marking and shows original slick pan with oxidation consistent with age and usage. The measurements of this of this grizzly bear trap are 10" x 47 1/2" x 17". Both springs are stamped S. Newhouse correctly.
