Presented in this lot is a Northern Plains Indians Beaded Trade Collection, circa 1970s. Included are a trade seed bead Hat Band featuring a center Thunderbird design and leather thong straps, measures 29"L. The second item is a Thunderbird trade seed bead necklace, measures 16.5"L. The third is a sunburst trade bead pendant necklace, measures 16.5"L. Last is a miniature trade seed bead Indian Chief doll fetish, measures 5"L. When trade beads were introduced to Native Americans, they made these colorful glass beads part of their jewelry. Native American beadwork holds a fascinating and profound history that dates back to the arrival of European traders in the 16th century. Each tribe has developed its distinctive style and techniques, resulting in a diverse tapestry of beadwork traditions. Colours used include chalk white, greasy yellow, red, green, medium blue, periwinkle blue, pumpkin yellow, light green and others.
