Presented in this lot is a fantastic Northern Plains Indians Bone & Trade Bead Necklace, circa 1880 to early 1900’s. The necklace shows Indian tanned hide strung with excellent period correct 19th Century trade beads which include bone hairpipe beads, red, orange and cranberry seed beads, and lustered Crow beads. Hair is attached with tin jingle cones. Ornamental beadwork has always had an important place in Native American culture. Beadwork began as a way for Native Americans to express themselves artistically that was compatible with their nomadic lifestyle. Native Americans wore beads and pendants to show ingredients in their social lives, economic and political concerns, and in beliefs of cosmology and religion. The necklace features a wonderfully crafted construction, is in good condition with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this necklace is 20" circumference.
