Featured in this lot is this Northern Plains Native American stone head war club from the mid 1900s. This war club shows a hand carved hard stone head held onto the haft with a wrap of parfleche rawhide. The haft consists of two wood sticks wrapped in a raw hide wrap, held together by rawhide strips. The piece does not appear to have been made for ceremonial use as it is not decorated and is made with a hard stone, but most likely was made for personal protection on the Plains and hard life in the early Reservation period directly post Indian Wars. The club measures 19 3/4" in length and 4 1/4" wide at the head f the club. It weighs 1 pound and 10 ounces.
