For your consideration is this Native American stone head war club from the Northern Plains region circa mid 1900s. This club shows a hand carved hard stone head held onto the haft with a wrap of parfleche rawhide. The haft is wrapped in tanned rawhide showing a cross style wrap. The piece does not appear to have been made for ceremonial use as it is not decorated and is made with a hard stone, but most likely was made for personal protection on the Plains and hard life in the early Reservation period directly post Indian Wars. The club measures 17 3/4" in length and 6 5/8" in width at the head of the club. It weighs 2 pounds and 12 ounces.
