The lot features an iron pipe tomahawk with quilled horsetail scalp drop from the Northern Plains of the 20th Century. The tomahawk exhibits a long large older pattern iron head with small carved bottom blade having a thick long body with ovalled square eyelet hole. The head has an spur pointing out with smooth finish and medium vase like bowl and is held into place with iron finished eye cap with two iron studs onto a hard wood haft handle. The handle has a sawtooth cut design under the front and is covered in hbands of brass covered metal furniture tacks. The base has a palm stop carved into the wood and the smoking tip is capped in brass, an artful touch. The bottom has a drop tied with Indian tanned buckskin showing a horsetail or horse main scalp drop with parfleched hide and is covered in porcupine quill quillwork in natural cream / white, brown and dyed red. The base has fringes of horse tail hair and fringes of Indian hide wrapped in porcupine quillwork with rolled tin jingle dangle cones on the end. The tomahawk appears to have an older Reservation era age to it possibly from the early-to-mid 1900's. The head itself measures 8"L by 2 3/8"L across the bottom of the blade. The club without the drop measures 25"L and the drop is an additional about 32"L.
