This is a Navajo Native American Indian Old Pawn sterling silver and "Sleeping Beauty" turquoise necklace. This features a beautiful petit point "Sleeping Beauty" turquoise sunburst design, five larger "Sleeping Beauty" round cabachons in the center, the necklace strung with a three section interlocking stamped sterling silver bench beads design on each side as well. This styling is reminiscent of jewelry created by noted Navajo silversmith Benson Yazzie. The Sun symbol was of great importance to all of the Native American Indian tribes. The sun symbol is depicted in a variety of ways, three of the symbols are shown on the image. The sun was revered by the Indians as the provider of light, heat, the facilitator of crops and represented growth. The rays of the sun signified the cardinal directions, North, South, East and West. This whole piece is in good condition, the patina is consistent throughout, no damage noted. The sunburst measures 1.75" in diameter. The necklace is 24.5" long.
