Included in this lot is an original, signed Carl Tolpo oil painting, “Monarch Pass”, from 1939. Carl Tolpo was born in Ludington, Michigan in 1901. During the course of his career, he established his reputation as a portrait, genre, and landscape painter, as well as a portrait and figure sculptor. As a painter, his works in fine oil portraiture particularly include state portraits and landscape oil paintings of the western USA, mostly the Yellowstone Park region. His works are on display in the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. This painting was done on site in Monarch Pass, Colorado. It shows a mountain ridge full of trees with a blue and white sky in the background. This piece is signed in the top right corner "Monarch Pass, Colo. Aug 28, '39. 1-2:30 pm. Carl Tolpo" This piece is in good condition for its age. It measures 20" by 16".
