This is an original Fred Fellows oil on canvas painting titled "Birdrattler (Chief of the Blackfoot)". Fellows was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma near the Otoe and Osage Native Americans. From a young age, he lived a ranch lifestyle learning to rope cattle and make saddles. By the 1960's, he had established a career in art. In 1969, he became a member of the Cowboy Artists of America. In addition, he has won numerous awards for painting, sculpture, watercolor and drawing. His works have been featured in Western Horseman Magazine, Arizona Highways, Newsweek, Southwest Art, Art of the Rockies and Western Art Collector. This painting is a wonderful depiction of the Blackfoot chief executed in a sepia tone style. The piece shows fine detail and excellent artistic ability. The painting has been signed by the artist in the lower left corner. It is in good condition. The canvas measures 16" x 20" and the frame measures 20" x 24".
