This is an original G.C. (Gerry) Wentworth bronze sculpture titled "The Bushwhacker". Gerry Wentworth was a Great Falls, Montana artist who grew up in the era just after Charles Russell's life. He was largely self taught and spent the majority of his life working in painting, sculpture and wood carving. Wentworth's works have been widely exhibited in such places as the C.M. Russell Show, the Phippen Art Show and the Frank Tenney Johnson Show. In 1981, he won Best of Show at the Northwest Americana Art Show. This particular piece depicts an outlaw bushwhacker, patiently posted-up behind a cabin wall, while holding his double barrel shotgun. The sculpture shows exceptional detail, and is signed "THE BUSHWHACKER" across the front, and is additionally signed and dated by the artist on the back, reading "© - 1977 - GC WENTWORTH". Additionally, the sculpture sits prominently on a gorgeous hardwood base, with a plaque reading "BUSHWHACKER - G.C. WENTOWRTH". Overall, the piece shows very good condition. The sizeable sculpture measures 18 3/8" tall, 15 1/8" wide across the base, and 8 5/8" deep. The series was sold at $3500 per bronze.
