For your consideration is this original, Hercules Powder box from the early 1910-20s from Tombstone. The Hercules Powder Company, later Hercules Inc., was a major participant in the explosives and chemical industries. It was founded in 1912 after a court-ordered dissolution of DuPont's explosives monopoly. Initially centered on explosives and smokeless powders, the company expanded into a variety of industrial products, including naval supplies and chemicals. It was critical to the supply of military explosives and materials during World Wars I and II. The company's fortunes fluctuated, with government contracts and engagement in the Vietnam War resulting in times of development, followed by shifts in demand and, eventually, a name change to Hercules Inc. in 1968. The box is marked on all sides with the front reading, "I.C.C. - 14 / Hercules Powder / High Explosives Dangerous", the sides read, "Hercules Powder" and "50 LB. 1 1/8 X8 / Hercules Gelatin Extra 40% Strength". The box shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 11 3/4" L x 17 3/4" W x 7 1/4" H and weighs 4 pounds.
