Up for auction is this original Schlechten photograph of Palisade Falls from the Bud Chapman collection. Brothers Albert and Alfred Schlechten set up their photography studio in Bozeman in 1900. They are noted for their photography of the area during the first part of the 20th Century. Compositionally, Schlechten emphasizes the dramatic nature of the falls by taking a vertical shot and cropping it. To get the shot he wanted, Schlechten positioned himself in such a way that a fallen tree cuts horizontally across the photo, dividing the composition between the dramatic cascading of the upper falls and the jumbled tumbling nature of the lower falls. The bottom of the photograph shows the water finally falling into what appears to be a small pool. The lower left of the photo is embossed "Schlechten Bozeman". Interestingly, in the lower right corner, the name of the falls is neatly and discreetly written, however, it is misspelled, "Palsade Falls". This beautiful historic photograph is suitably framed and shows great condition. it measures 14.25" tall x 6.25" wide
