Presented in this lot is an Original Walt Horton "Catch and Release" Bronze, Signed, circa 1990s to early 2000s. Mounted on a rotating base with the artist's plaque. Artist's signature located below bear's left thigh. The sculpture features a wonderfully and professionally crafted bronze depicting an older bespectacled fly fisherman with his left leg in the water and right leg kneeling on a rock. His fly rod is cradled in the crook of his left arm, fish partially in the bamboo creel on his hip and pliers in the right hand while his left hand, holding a bear's lip, is attempting to remove his fly lure from the mouth of a seated bear. Horton's attention to the minute details of the old fisherman's squinting eyes to the bear's facial expression of patient endurance awaiting the lure's removal is a testimony to Horton's skills in creating life-like sculptures. Horton expertly depicts the frailty of the weathered fisherman face to face with the muscular, momentarily docile grizzled bear. Walt is perhaps best known for his large-scale bronze sculptures of animals and children, many of which can be seen in eight galleries nationwide and in private collections around the world. Walter Horton (1953 - 2010) was active/lived in Colorado. Walter Horton who had a long and prolific career as a cartoonist, is known for Wildlife, children and western theme sculptures. This large impressive bronze is in very well preserved condition, and sits on a swivel base. No marring observed, rich patina noted throughout. Measures 16"W x 26.5"L x 30"H, weight is 80lbs.
