The lot features a Buffalo hide knife sheath with rare beadwork and late 19th Century trade knife both attributed to the Osage Native American Indians of Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Early original Osage beadwork is immensely scarce with this being a fine representation. The piece is comprised of Indian brain-tanned Buffalo hide with original hide belt tie strap with old brass trade beads and typical Osage fashion 19th Century period geometric pattern and “zig-zag” or lightning bolt pattern on a white background done in early glass trade seed beads. The beads are in colors of chalk white, greasy green, greasy yellow, semi-transparent blue and semi-transparent red. The old trade knife has a dagger pattern with blacksmith rasp file blade, brass guard and old stag horn handle with dark coloring. Provenance: Form the ex-collection of Jim Bastian Kansas City, Missouri. Early original Osage beadwork is scarce with this being a fine example. Knife is 12 inches long and the sheath is 10.25 inches long by 3.5 inches wide.
