Featured in this lot is a pair of hand carved egrets in horn. Egrets are herons, generally long-legged wading birds, that have white or buff plumage, developing fine plumes during the breeding season. Egrets are not a biologically distinct group from herons and have the same build. These egrets are finely carved into horns. The larger one's beak is slightly open and features white eyes, while the smaller one has a closed beak and features dull red eyes. These hand carved egrets show fine attention to detail and great craftsmanship. The largest one measures 11 1/4" H x 7" W, while the smaller one measures 6 1/4" H x 4 1/2" W.
