For your consideration is this pair of rawhide and leather bear paw snowshoes circa early to mid 1900s. These two snowshoes are both marked by different makers, one marked "F H Co. Wallingford VT" and the other marked, "U.S. C.A. Lund Hastings, Minn.". They are constructed out of stretched and woven rawhide lacing as well as leather on the foot holds. A typical feature of the bear paw snowshoe style is having no tail, making it easy to traverse thick, wooded areas. The oval shape of these snow shoes are good for maneuverability in thick woods and mountainous terrain with firmer snow, but struggle in terms of speed and working in deep powder snow. The snowshoes show good condition overall, showing some wear from their age and use over the years, but no signs of major or obvious damage is noted. They measure 28 3/8" L x 13" W and weigh 5 pounds and 4 ounces.
