This lot features a pair of Vintage Palco canteens. Palco canteens were produced by the Worcester Pressed Aluminum Co. in Worcester, Massachusetts. The company manufactured aluminum canteens and mess kits for the United States military and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America. The patent for their aluminum canteen was issued May 4, 1915, and the company itself was not incorporated until September 5, 1919. Since the canteens were a common military-issued item in World War I, they were certainly being manufactured by that time. Both of the canteens are aluminum. One canteen comes with a military green cover with a strap and Palco snaps, a screw top held by a small piece of chain, and displays “2 Palco Quarter.” This canteen measures 8" across and 4" deep. The other canteen displays an engraved “Patented Palco May 4, 1915.” This canteen measures 8" across and 1 1/2" deep. The screw top does not have an attachment chain. The canteens are in fair shape.
