Made available in this lot is a Pat Connolly saddle, crafted in Billings, MT between 1929, and 1950. Pat Connolly is one of three brothers, and son of Irish Immigrant, and expert tack maker - John Connolly. The three brothers (Pat, Andrew, and Jack) moved from Minneapolis to Butte, Montana in 1907, once again relocating to Billings in 1912. It was in 1929 when Jack moved to Livingston that Pat began marketing saddles, and tack under his own name. This saddle showcases Pats exceptional craftsmanship with simple pin-stripe tooling, and a "Connolly" makers stamp in five places, showing the "Pat Connolly - Maker - Billing, MONT." mark on the seat rise, and behind the cantle, on the skirt. The saddle also shows the swooping "Connolly" mark on both sides of the rear cinch, and on the back of the cantle. The saddle is additionally adorned with copper hardware, brass rigging dees, a low cantle, with a drastic Cheyenne Roll, and double-stacked scalloped leather conchos. This saddle is brought to us by the late Bud Chapman, renowned Bozeman, Montana Western collector. The early saddle shows good condition, with supple, hydrated leather. The saddle uses a 14" seat.
