For your consideration is this original, oil on board Northern Pacific seascape of Devil's Churn in Oregon, done by Montana artist Paul Krapf in 1970. Paul Krapf (1927-2019) was a wildlife and landscape artist from Gardiner, Montana at the southern end of the beautiful Paradise Valley north of majestic Yellowstone National Park. His house and studio were built along the Yellowstone River 11 miles north of the park. The inhabitants of Yellowstone National Park were his frequent subjects. He also produced coastal views, especially Oregon’s, as well as Western scenes and landscapes. This piece shows Oregon's iconic Devil's Churn, a dramatic, narrow inlet in the volcanic basalt rock of the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area near Yachats, Oregon. It is a popular, dangerous, and spectacular viewpoint for watching powerful ocean waves crash and foam. It shows a large wave crashing into the inlet as foam and water sprays onto the rock face and into the air. A bright sky shines overhead with distance clouds seen in the background. It is signed in the bottom left hand corner reading, "Krapf '70". It shows good condition overall with little to no wear present and no signs of damage noted. It measures 24" L x 36" W and weighs 4 pounds and 10 ounces.
