For your consideration is this Vintage Photogravure of "Appeal to the Great Spirit", a 1908 equestrian statue by Cyrus Dallin, located in the front of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts. The framed photograph has a title placard reading, "CLASS January 1921". The image portrayed by Dallin and this photograph is of a Native American man on horseback facing skyward, his arms spread wide in a spiritual request to the Great Spirit. A postcard of this photograph was published by Oxford University Press in the 1920s. Cyrus Edwin Dallin (1861-1944) was an American sculptor best known for his depictions of Native Americans. He created more than 260 works, including the Equestrian Statue of Paul Revere in Boston; the Angel Moroni atop Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City; and Appeal to the Great Spirit, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Appeal to the Great Spirit became an icon of American art and is Dallin's most famous work. This framed photogravure is in amazing preserved condition, age tanning and foxing observed throughout. Wood frame exhibits slight scuffing. Visible art measures 23.5"W x 31.5"L, fame is 29.5"W x 37.5"L x .75"D, weight 13lb, 10oz.
