Featured in this lot is this Pima County Bank request to call in the note on Frank C. Stilwell in 1881. Frank Stilwell (1856-1882) was born in Iowa and arrived in Arizona Territory in 1877. He was involved in a number of business endeavors and was arrested multiple times. In 1879, he and James Cassidy were accused of bashing John Van Houten to death with a rock over a mining claim. Stilwell and Cassidy were acquitted due to a lack of evidence. Stilwell was accused of murdering Morgan Earp in 1882, and as a result, Wyatt Earp killed him on March 20, 1882. This note from the Pima County Bank is requesting payment from Frank C. Stilwell on his outstanding loan of $1,735.73. ?In the context of banking, when a bank "calls in a note," it is demanding the immediate repayment of the outstanding loan balance from the borrower. This action is typically based on the terms outlined in the loan agreement, which may grant the bank the right to request full repayment under certain conditions. Such conditions can include the borrower's default on payments, deterioration of creditworthiness, or other breaches of the loan terms. The bank note shows good condition overall with wear present from its age, but no major signs of damage or wear is noted. It measures 10 7/8" L x 8 3/8" W. Provenance: From the Tombstone Western Heritage Museum in Tombstone, Arizona. TTD152
