The lot features a fantastic parfleche rawhide polychrome painted drum from the Plains Native American Indians dating to Pre-1900’s. The drum shows a wetted and stretched Buffalo Bison parfleche rawhide over a bent wood frame which has also been wrapped in trade tent canvas. The front of the drum shows a polychrome mineral pigment painted finish showing a green background with reddish yellow and green spotted outside border with a central Buffalo Bison figure showing four Buffalo Bison hooves at the four points of the circle. Provenance: The piece is from the Ted Byers collection in Great Falls, Montana where he had the piece titled, “Bison Calling” and referred to the piece as Pre-Reservation 19th Century. The hide is tied with parfleche. Overall the piece is in good condition and measures 12” in diameter by 2.5” thick.
