The lot features a parfleche rawhide wrapped stone head horseback war club from the Northern Plains Native American Indians of the 19th Century. The Indian Wars era 1800’s war club shows a nice long wood haft handle and medium to small stone head which is completely covered in parfleche rawhide which is all sinew rawhide sewn showing a nice worn patina and deep coloring from honest age and use. The gripping area shows a more worn and stained condition with slightly thinner hide from wear, consistent with being swung and used by sweaty hands. The club is in tight condition and is truly a fantastic piece that appears to have been a horseback war club, swung at opponents when upon horseback, a truly vicious weapon of war. Provenance: From a historic Eastern Montana American Indian Collection, where the piece was found to be an authentic original, one of the finest collections of American Indian weaponry and antiquities in Montana. Measures 22.5”L with a head that is 3 1/8”W by 2”D by 1 7/8”H.
