The lot features a fantastic quilled and beaded Buffalo hide doll with White Buffalo Hair tuft from the Sioux Native American Indians. The piece, likely from the Lakota Oglala Teton, shows a Buffalo Bison Indian tanned hide construction being sinew sewn in a nice large size adorned with exceptional natural porcupine quillwork along with greasy blue pony and seed beads. The piece shows a heavy full cape at the top being completely covered in natural cream porcupine quills having a tight expert design with integral breast plate and triangular symbols. The entire cape shoulder covering shows porcupine quillwork on both front, back and top along with bottom and side edges being covered in hide hand cut fringe. Below the cape shows the typical Indian tanned Buffalo hide being stuffed with sinew sewing further covered in a flaring wide Buffalo hide dress with fancy hand cut hide fringe at the outside and base borders. At the waist shows a heavy harness saddle leather remnant with brass trade tacks. At the base of the dress shows a small row of porcupine quillwork on both sides. Under the dress shows high top moccasins in Buffalo hide with red ocher mineral pigment coloring, brass tacks, fringe and quill work. At the head of the doll sows two heavy tufts of White Buffalo Bison fur hair, a truly rare and exiting original adornment further accented by seed bead facial features and seed bead earring along with pony beaded necklace all being 19th Century glass trade beads in greasy yellow, chalk white, Cheyenne greasy pink. The piece is in very well preserved condition. Provenance: From a historic Eastern Montana American Indian Collection, where the piece was found to be an authentic original, one of the finest collections of American Indian weaponry and antiquities in Montana.
