Featured in this lot Polynesian grass skirt, blouse, and bag circa 1930's. The garments feature a wonderfully and professionally crafted woven grass construction that shows expert weaving and is constructed most likely for a younger child. There is a skirt, a blouse, and a linen lined and woven grass bag in this collection and would have been important to cover the individual and preserve them from the elements and store items with. Grass skirts were introduced to Hawaii by immigrants from the Gilbert Islands (small atolls that are part of the Pacific island nation of Kiribati today) in the 1870s and 1880s although their origins are attributed to Samoa as well. The condition of this collection of Polynesian grass garments is good with no obvious signs of damage and shows good overall condition. The measurements of this skirt is 13" x 17 1/4" and the shirt measures 14" x 8 1/4" and the bag measures 9 1/2" x 7 1/4".
