Featured in this lot is this beautiful acrylic on canvas painting done by North Carolina artist Prentiss Halladay circa late 1900s / early 2000s. Prentiss Halladay, an award-winning artist, has spent much of her life enjoying and making art. She works in acrylics, mixed media, and watercolor. Most recently, she earned best in show at the Associated Artists summer regional exhibition. Previously, she received honors for her watercolors in Charlottesville and Halifax, Virginia, Springfield, Illinois, and Southport, North Carolina.
Her philosophy is that art should represent a central notion that the artist wishes to convey to his or her audience. This notion could be a simple abstraction, a feeling, or even a societal statement. However, the majority of Halladay's paintings depict a fleeting moment in time, frozen in recollection. This painting is set in a beautiful wood frame with an inner canvas frame acting as a matting paper. The painting shows an amazing beach scene as waves crash onto the sandy shore and the large rocks on the right side of the painting. Vivid and mellow colors from the sunset cast a golden glow over the breaking waves in the distance, giving this painting a calm feeling. Halladay's signature can be seen in the bottom right hand corner in black paint reading, "Halladay". The painting and frame show good condition overall with very slight wear to the frame from its handling over the years, but no signs of major damage or wear is noted. The visible painting measures 15 1/2" L x 35 5/8" W, while the entire piece measures 23 1/2" L x 43 3/8" W. The painting weighs 7 pounds and 10 ounces.
