Offered in this lot for your consideration is a rare 1918 edition of Lone Bull's Mistake: A Lodge Pole Chief Story by James Willard Schultz. Lone Bull's Mistake: A Lodge Pole Chief Story, is the account of Black Otter, a Pikuni (or 'Blackfoot') Indian cast out from his tribe for breaking the hunting rules and forced to wander the wilderness in search of redemption. James Willard Schultz, (1859 – 1947) was an American author, explorer, Glacier National Park guide, fur trader and historian of the Blackfeet Indians. He operated a fur trading post at what was Carroll, Montana and lived among the Pikuni tribe during the period 1880-82. Schultz is most noted for his 37 books, most about Blackfoot life, and for his contributions to the naming of prominent features in Glacier National Park. The book has its plastic covered paper dust jacket still intact with illustration by Skrenor. The book has illustrations by George Varian. The book has a small label from Chas. E. Lauriat Co. Importers & Book sellers 385 Wash'n st Boston on the inside page. There is light foxing to the paper and some faint pencil marks on some pages. The book is in good condition and measures 8" x 5 1/2" x 1 1/4". This book in this good of condition is a wonderful find.
