For your consideration is this extremely Rare First Edition biography of, "Life of Ulysses Simpson Grant", By E. E. Brown, 1885, D. Lothrop and Company publisher. E. E. Brown, was an American author of prose, biographies, and poetry. She was also an artist. Emma Elizabeth Brown, was born in Concord, New Hampshire in 1847. From her father she got a love of books and reading and a love for the beauty of the outdoors. From her mother she got a good executive sense. Brown contributed articles to various literary and religious magazines, including The Atlantic. Among the books written by Brown were five volumes for a "Biographical Series",also published by D. Lothrop and Company. In addition to this biography on Grant, she also wrote biographies of Washington, Garfield, Oliver Wendell Holmes, and James Russell Lowell. Her biographies were reportedly in steady demand. This olive and brown colour cloth bound gold gilt stamped illustrated hardcover is in nice condition, scuffing noted to edges. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and slight foxing throughout. Measures 5.25"W x 7.75"L x 1.25"D, weight 1lb, 4oz.
